My niece, a biologist studying for a PHD in plant epigenetics in Tampa, discovered that the university had plans to sell off this preserve to be developed. The problem was that it was an important outdoor classroom for both biology and anthropology. In addition, it was critical habitat for many species of animals, and provided a corridor to Green Swamp. I got to slog through this incredible place, photograph it, and hear amazing stories and legends about it's past, and importance today. I created the reduction linocut to honor her work helping to save it, and the beauty of natural Florida.
