Linoleum Block Print on paper; printed on etching press with Gamblin oil-based ink and hand painted with Holbein watercolor. Edition of 25 original hand-pulled prints. Reclining oaks, pushed over by wind but still rooted, remind me of reclining Buddhas. Their generous space creates a biome of its own. I drew the tree from memory and imagination and began carving overlooking the field behind the house. The carving process takes many hours over the course of weeks, and I got to see all these inhabitants of the land. Every creature I saw I added into the piece on the spot. I had not planned to populate it so densely! The block is inked, paper is soaked and blotted, and the piece is printed on the Charles Brand etching press at Sweetwater Print Cooperative.
