Size with mat: 14x18
Reduction linocut in 4 layers printed on letter press with Gamblin and Charbonel inks.
The first emergence of luna moths in the early spring have deeper colors than the summer and fall hatchings. Farther north, the lunas emerge only once or twice a year. Adult moths have no mouthparts and live a week at most, their only purpose is to breed and lay eggs. Sweet gum trees host these ephemeral creatures, and getting to see one is like a sign from God that there is hope despite fragility. This block was carved and printed in 4 layers on my Linoscribe Showcard press. The piece includes some colored pencil detail.
