Linoleum Block Print on paper; printed on etching press with Gamblin oil-based ink and hand painted with Holbein watercolor. Edition of 35 original hand-pulled prints.The long leaf pine ecosystem once covered much of the south and is host to a remarkable menagerie of flora and fauna. 98% of the old growth is gone, but restoration is happening all over the south. I spent time drawing the landscape directly from life onto the linoleum at Goldhead Branch State Park and Morningside Nature Center, and I photographed Wekiva extensively. Birds and animals were added from photo references and the pieces were carved with gouges to create the relief. It was inked with black, cranked through the press onto dampened paper and then hand painted.
