Linoleum Block Print on paper; printed on etching press with Gamblin oil-based ink and hand painted with Holbein watercolor. Edition of 35 original hand-pulled prints.
After many trips to Blue Hole in the Ichetucknee Springs State Park, I composed the drawing with photographs of the creatures I met and filled in the rest from memory. The image was carved from the block with “U” gouges and “V”, about 50 hours of process, rolled with ink, then printed on fine art papers like Khadi, Nideggan and Bugra. Color is then hand painted. It is an edition of 35 original, hand pulled prints. Reproductions are also available.

Flamingos were not considered native to Florida because they were mostly wiped out by early settlers, but new evidence came to light that they persisted deep in the Everglades and Florida Bay, but eluded our gaze. When utility companies began creating reclamation wetlands, the flamingos came back into sight causing a great stir a number of years ago. Flamingos were celebrated as true Florida citizens after all, so I created this piece. It is a 4 layer reduction linocut printed on a Linoscribe Showcard press.

gorgeous night heron. Near the bird was this spectacular collection of
tillandsia, and even a blooming orchid.
